Non-Immigrant Visas
This section provides information on visa requirements for travelers who wish to visit, work, or study for a temporary period in the United States. The type of visa required will depend on the purpose of your travel. Please note that a visa is not a guarantee of entry into the U.S.; only an immigration officer at the port of entry determines whether or not you may enter as well as your authorized duration of stay.
Average Wait Time for a Non-Immigrant Visa Interview Appointment: Please see up-to-date wait times at the Department of State's Visa Wait Time Information Page. Please also note that the published Visa Wait Time is an average, and timing for a particular case will vary based on individual circumstances. Many additional factors, such as the need for special clearances, incomplete applications, and fraud investigations, may require extra time.
Expedited Appointments: For urgent travel including family and medical emergencies, imperative business meetings, student, and exchange visitor requests, please call the visa appointment and information service at 705-3007. Using a Visa or Mastercard, you can purchase a PIN which can be activated immediately. You must inform the operator of the urgent nature of your travel to schedule an expedited appointment.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the pre-interview document review involved in H1B and L visa cases, applicants for those visas should anticipate at least one to two weeks of additional processing time. |
Non-Immigrant Visa Fees: All applicants worldwide must pay a USD $131 application processing fee before applying. For some visa classes and nationalities, additional issuance fees may apply. Please see the Depaprtment of State's Visa Types Page for details.
