Information on Grants and Cooperative Agreements funded by the Narcotics Affairs Section (NAS)
The Narcotics Affairs Section (NAS) is pleased to announce the coming informative meeting on how to present proposals under the Federal Assistance Cooperative Agreement. The session will be held in the American Embassy in Lima, Peru located at Av. La Encalada cdra.17 s/n, Monterrico, Surco, on Friday, July 25th. 2008, from 08:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
During the presentation participants will receive information on grants requirements, reporting guidelines, request for proposals format, and questions and answers session. The interested parties should contact the NAS Program Office, at the phone number 618-2690 for registration, no later than Wednesday, July 22rd. 2008. Please note that the seat capacity is limited.
The Government of the United States of America and the Government of Peru agrees to support the Peruvian institutions competent to design and implement activities to reduce the abuse, production, and illicit traffic of drugs. This is intended to support projects designed to permit the most effective actions in regard to the prevention and control of the production, illicit traffic, and abuse of drugs.
The goal of this agreement is to develop, improve, and support non profit organizations, government and non-government Peruvian institutions competent to design and implement all aspects of the Peruvian National Plan for Drug Prevention and Control. The various projects to be undertaken in furtherance of this goal are: 1) Control of Production and Illicit Traffic in Drugs; 2) Alternate Development and Reduction of Coca for Illicit Uses; and 3) Prevention of Drug Abuse.
The NAS office in Lima coordinates counternarcotics programs with other inter-agencies like DEA (Department of Justice), the MAAG (Department of Defense), and USAID (International Agency for Development) among others.
The funding for these projects by the USG is subject upon the availability of appropriate funds, the satisfactory progress toward project goals, and the approval by the U.S. Department of State, Assistant Secretary of State of International Narcotics and Law Enforcements Affairs “INL”.
